Radio Quebec has just revealed that Loto-Quebec wishes to have its share on the juicy market of the online gambling. The chairman of Loto-Quebec, Mr. Cousineau at the time of its speech made in front of the Chamber of Commerce of Montreal Metropolitan, talked about the flourishing of market of online games like poker on Internet or on portable telephones. The object of this intervention in front of the Chamber of Commerce of Montreal Metropolitan is that Loto-Quebec wants to solicit the provincial government to reform the law so that in its turn, it can launch out on the market of online gambling in general and the poker on Internet in particular like five other provinces which already started to offer online gambling.
At the time of his speech, the chairman of Loto-Quebec had also supported his opinion on the fact that more than 2000 illegal sites of online game are accessible from the territory of Quebec. Of the difference in these illegal sites of online game, this leader of a gambling firm thinks that its company is the only entitled to offer a responsible gambling on Internet to limit any risk of addiction and to protect the Québécois players like their entourage. At the same moment as the intervention of Cousineau, by absolute coincidence or a simple chance of calendar, the Institute of statistics of Quebec presented its study on the consumption of drug and alcohol inside young people. And online gambling appears in it and this observation report that “21% of the pupils of the Québécois secondary school had already played poker with money between friends in 2008, against 15% in 2006”.
