WSOP Europe: Barry Shulman won the Main Event

The final table of the Main Event of the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) was once again an unresolved rich event. 17 hours of game were indeed needed before the name of the winner was known. In spite of the presence of several renowned players at this table, Barry Shulman, the “Card Player” magazine owner finally won a victory in front of the Canadian player Daniel Negreanu. Even if Jason Mercier, the chipleader since the beginning of the finale, holder of a first title during the EPT of San Remo, appeared among the best pretenders to win the title because of his advance in chips, Shulman who already has a WSOP bracelet in 2001 did not miss to make a remarkable ascent having let him to win the final title.

The first 4 hours of this meeting of poker knew no elimination; it was the American Matthew Hawrilenko who was obliged to leave the table at first. Then, the November Nine’s turn, Antoine Saout came in front of Daniel Negranu, having obliged him to leave the table at the 8th position with £114,228 of gain. The Canadian has been eliminated immediately after, then followed by the British James Akenhead, the Swede Chris, the Finn Markus Ristola and the Englishman Praz Bansi. For this title, Barry Shulman thus leaves proudly with £801,603 against £485,589 for Daniel Negreanu, the vice-champion. Certainly, this year 2009 is really Shulman’s year because his son, Jeff Shulman manager of the family magazine Card Player is also a finalist of the WSOP "November Nine".
