Ceasar’s Cup: Europeans’ victory in front of the American team

The first edition of the Ceasars’ Cup announced since a few months as the new poker event kept well its promise. Remind us that Ceasar’s Cup is for poker what is Rayder Cup for golf, which is a confrontation between the New World and the Old continent. Both teams were formed by 8 players led by a captain. The Team Europe had on the top the champion of the Main Event of the WSOP Europe 2006; Annette Obrestad. It belongs to the Canadian and four times winner of the WSOP, Daniel Negreanu to lead the American team. London, the city which receives also the Main Event of the World Series of Poker Europe had accommodated this first Ceasar’s Cup. In the final, the score was clear, the youth had beaten the skilled, and Team America yielded face to the European team. This last one won 4 of the five competed matches.

Nevertheless, the American armada was formed by players endowed with impressive prize lists; having several victories in major tournaments of the poker circuit apart from the World Series of poker bracelets. The unique American defeat was the match heads up between the duet Doyle Brunson-Jennifer Harman against Dario Minieri and the young player Annette Obrestad. But the star of the Scandinavian poker Annette Obrestad redeemed very well herself by lowering within 9 minutes the world champion 1996 Huck Seed during the fifth and last set. The very first edition of Ceasar’s Cup has to be marked in annals because it describes a new era in poker, that of the new generation of poker and the end of the American superiority in this discipline.
