EPT of Barcelona: Victory of Carter Phillips
The verdict of the Spanish Poker event has just brought in. This year, the title was thus awarded to the American Carter Phillips who arises from an online qualification. He gains so $850,000 even if he is on professional circuit only since 11 months. European Poker Tour Barcelona (EPT) which took place in Gran Casino of Barcelona from the 4th till the 10th September saw the participation of 477 players among whom uncontested stars of poker as Daniel Negreanu, Scotty Nguyen, Robert Mizrachi, Carlos Mortensen, Peter Eastgate, Vanessa Rousso, Freddy Deeb, Ivan Demidov. The American who was chipleader of the tournament had appeared at the final table with 4.37 million chips. Carter Phillips so won the first big title of his career in a heads-up marathon played during more than three hours with the British veteran Marc Goodwin. Proof once again the excellent health of the young players of poker.
The first Spanish player was at the third position and gains so a check of $300,000 which is up to here the most important gain of an Iberian player in an event of the European Poker Tour. After this victory, Carter Phillips declared "to be amazed for his result", him who hoped to win a major tournament one day but not so early. The next stage of the European Poker Tour which gives an appointment in London will doubtless be the biggest festival poker EPT of the year. 16 tournaments are programmed, including the Main Event and a High Roller. The festival will begin on September the 30th, 2009 within the prestigious London Hilton Metropole.
