Olympique Lyonnais: Threatened by the Belgian justice because of its shirt
The movement in Belgium of the Olympique Lyonnais last Tuesday, August the 25th within the framework of the play-off game of the Champions' League, during which this French club face the Belgian club of Anderlecht, was not appreciated by the Belgian justice. Players of the French club wearing shirt having on, name of its partner, a site of online game and sports betting was not indeed put up with Belgian authorities. The publicity of all things concerning online gambling game, online poker remains prohibited effectively on the Belgian territory. In the statements of the news agency Belga, the Olympique Lyonnais risks legal proceedings for violation of the law about gambling games. In this context, A Belgian centre of defence of consumers came to ask for the opening of judicial information by the Brussels’ public prosecutor's department.
Even in France, the Olympique Lyonnais should not wear this kind of shirt until December the 31st. Before the new law concerning the opening of online game is applied. One month ago, the OL were forced to compete for a match in France with a shirt which did not have the name of its sponsor appearing on. But since, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) authorized French teams to wear these shirts during European competitions outside (but only in the countries which authorize online games advertisement). The president of the French Professional football League (Ligue de Football Professionnel français or LFP) Frédéric Thiriez requested an acceleration of the procedures for the passing of the law about the opening to competition of online games. He considers that clubs are hurt by La Française de Jeux which makes hundreds of millions of euro behind the back of clubs.
