Clandestine tournaments of poker: Larry Burns in front of American courts

Larry Burns is currently an interesting subject for the American press in the judicial heading. This person working as lawyer is recognized guilty of having organized secret tournaments of poker. The facts go back to 2007. Sentence was passed a little time after the congress rejected the second bill made by the democratic senator of New Jersey Robert Menendez. The court has just decided that poker is not a game of skill. Remind us that, Lawrence Burns was arrested for having organized illegal games of poker two years ago. Police infiltrated into the tournaments of poker he organized before it ends. The charges which are against Burns are: organization of 12 illegal tournaments of poker, excessive publicity, fraudulent organization of gambling games.

At the time of the plea, the defence of Larry Burns advanced statistical studies. These studies show that chance has only a minimal incidence in the game. Implying that poker is not thus a game of chance, but it is really a game of skill. As accustomed to affairs concerning poker, the Poker Player Alliance (PPA), syndicate of poker players brought its support for the lawyer of Westmoreland County. Burns is temporarily free, but was considered guilty, he waits the passing of his sentence. In this affair, the accused risks a maximal sentence of 5 years with $10,000 of fine, but he will certainly have recourse to an appeal. In the same register, two men will have to face the tribunal of Pennsylvania for the same affair.
