Mozambique : A more supple law about casino

Like its neighbour, South Africa, where casino’s industry attracts rich people and thousands of tourists every year, Mozambique wants also to launch into this way. Vast beaches bordered by the eponym canal, joining then the Indian Ocean wait indeed for the new promoters in this country. In this, in order to launch again its tourism sector, the Mozambican Parliament has just ratified law making game industry and casinos environment suppler. If opening a casino in this country needed before at least an investment of $15 millions, henceforth, it is reduced into $8 millions. Since 1994, date of the liberalization of the sector, game firms had to be installed in a hotel endowing more than 250 rooms, which is also abolished in this new law.

Moreover, regulation of game industry is transferred to the Ministry of Tourism if it was the Ministry of Finances which managed it before. Even though running an online casino on its territory is not specified in this bill yet, this country has just legalized electronic machine games on outside of casinos. Building a casino in Mozambique won’t be reserved anymore on some areas only. Currently, casinos can be built on a bigger part of its national territory. The holding of the football World Cup in South Africa in 2010 is one of the reasons prompting most of Southern African countries to do such reforms in their tourism
