Online games : A turnover of $11 billions for this year 2009

If amusements through video and PC games were played between friends at home before, currently, it is more and more used on the web. Online games part in the video games conception and sale is in perpetual increase. According to a report published by the Lazard Capital Markets consulting office, among the $44 billions of turnovers that the video games market may generate this year, the part of online games industry is estimated reaching $11 billions or 25% of games’ market. Nevertheless, four years ago, these online games represented hardly the third part of the current sales, about $3 billions. Beside this market, games on networks on online casino sites like black jack, poker, roulette, slot machines… still represent a part of a market which is not included in these sales.



According to the study, « with more than $1 billion of surfers in the world, web masters become more and more inclined to propose content and online services in the habitual games ». In this way, these Internet enthusiasts become more and more favourable to the payment of their interactive leisure activities. And trend will still accelerate. « 2009 should be marked by an acceleration of change of Media’s consumption, whereas in 2010 and 2011, we should notice increase of monetisation capacities in this sector and adoption of game applications by the public », Colin Sebastian, Lazard Capital Markets’ analyst, explained. Chinese game industry is one the markets knowing the greatest boom and registering the greatest benefit.
