Protection of the environment: Casinos reiterate their promise
After the appeal launched by Prince Albert II of Monaco on July 2005 for a collective step for environment preservation, casinos which form one of the biggest industries in the principality confirmed their promises. Gaming rooms used to propose to their clients luxury and pleasure to play through games like bingo, poker, roulette and black jack assert again their citizen’s behaviour. The Société des Bains de Mer or Monte-Carlo SBM which already endowed for two years ago with a global politic for durable development, did so a brief balance sheet of its running after this period. “After two years, results are promising and I am admiring about the work done by the members of the commission for the durable development”, Bernard Lambert, managing director of Monte-Carlo SBM asserts.
Among the 23 acts in its five-year environmental charter, the enterprise already could bring significant contribution to the environment. At the end of the financial year 2007-2008, it reduced 4% its power consumption by reducing the façades’ lighting of its casino and hotels. Thanks to water recycling, the quantity of water that it consumes decreased of 20%. Its waste were sorted out and recycled : 63% of the cooking oil, 100% of the ink cartridges, 402 tons of glass, the office papers, newspapers and magazines representing 45 tons per year… The 3,600 persons working in the group were sensitized for the environment protection. On the whole, a budget of €5.3 millions was injected by this casino to be in harmony with the environment.
