WSOP 2009 : Andrew Cohen takes possession of the first bracelet

The first World Series of Poker Event 2009 dedicated to employees of Las Vegas enterprises saw the first bracelet award of this 40th edition of WSOP. A barman of the Palms’ Casino, Andrew Cohen had indeed won the $500 buy-in competition and received so the $83,778 of gain for this tournament. At the beginning, 861 players from different hotels and gaming room of this famous city played in order to tempt chances to try to change their destiny. After the Day 1 in which nine out of ten of the participants have already been eliminated, the other half of those who took part in Day 2 didn’t give any presentiment that they would stay long in the game because of their short stack.

In spite of his discretion at the opening of the tournament, Andrew Cohen who already was the chipleader since the beginning of the final table didn’t have too much difficulty to win this tournament. Among the ten qualified players for this final competition, Sammy Porter was the first eliminated. A few minutes later, Ferdinand Boleski (8th position) and winning $8,866, John McAvoy (7th) who goes back home with $10,545 of gain, Bobby Rooney and Jun Dulay followed him respectively. It is in some deals facing Cohen that the three remaining players will leave the table, too, like Grant Yasui ending at the 4th position and Casey Kuhn (3rd). During the final heads-up, Paul Peterson who had at his disposal chips fives times less that Cohen didn’t resist a long. Cohen won so the title and the bracelet against a gain of $51,787 for Peterson, the vice-champion.
