Texas : The bill for liberalizing poker brought forward in 2010
Despite the long procedure opened since 2008 by the democrat Jose Menendez in the State of Texas, in order to liberalize gambling and poker, this elected person has decided on last 14th May to remove his project. Even though this draft of text has been welcomed by many persons in this economic revival period, the Texas governor, Ricky Perry who advertised to impose his veto against any project of the same kind made him shrinking back. “You have to know when to bet or when to fold!” he asserted when he took the decision to interrupt the bill HB222. Nevertheless, on November 2008, Menendez has already presented this bill in front of the House of Representatives; on the 25th of March, the project has already convinced also the committee of licenses and administrative procedures in Texas within which 6 votes against 3 passed it. But Menendez don’t plead defeated and he really reckons to bring to its end the approval of this bill 222 which will allow establishing a system of licence assignment to casinos, to enterprises of mutual bets and to organizations wishing to organize matches and/or poker tournaments in the State of Texas. With the return of the discussion about Texas State budget in 2010 and with the fall of Perry’s popularity, the text will get more chances to be recognized by the House of Representatives. 100 votes are necessary against the 150 possible in the midst of the chamber to authorize the promulgation of this law.
