Mike Matusow: Publication of a self-biography about his prize list
The one of the best poker live player on the world circuit, Mike Matusow has just come to publish his self-biography. In the book entitled "Check-Raising the Devil", this player holder of three WSOP bracelets and having already earn $7 millions at tournament reviews his life, his successes, his failures but also his moments in which he nearly became crazy. "I suppose that if only things were little bit different, I would't be on the way to write this book", Matusow starts at the book's heading. Despite his success, consummation of drugs and its traffic nearly destroyed this man qualified as quarrelsome player at tournament. However, in this book, he unveils his vulnerability and his shyness. At the beginning of 90's, at the age of 23 years old, Matusow uncovered poker live whereas he worked at his parents' shop. After some successful poker parties, he left his job and went to Las Vegas where he became croupier at Sam's Town. In spite of a bankroll on the rise, he lost all in sporting bets. But a friend financed Matusow to become a professional poker player. And his successes will happen before long. During Omaha Hi-Lo tournament of WSOP in 1997, he took the second position. In 1999, he won his first bracelet and his successes came one after the other: final table in 2001, second bracelet in 2002… But drugs destroyed him, too. At one time, he was diagnosed as depressing maniac. Arrested for having done drug's traffic, he obtained a sentence of 6 months in prison, in 2003. But once he came from prison, he was free from this devil. The book unveils thus, the hidden side of this poker star's life.
