With a few weeks to go before the start of the 40th WSOP the world's most prestigious tournament, organizers are confident that the economic downturn will not impact the overall experience of the 57-event anniversary tournament. However the commissioner of the event noted 2009 event will possibly not eclipse last year's records in the number of entries and amount of prize money. Nevertheless the organizers will make sure that whoever shows up will get their money's worth, enjoying the best possible experience. The organizers hope that several new feature will attract new players, including low buy-in games, increased satellite competition and added tables for satellite play and cash games. The host casino for the six-week event is also offering incentives such as low room rates for WSOP participants. The World Series of Poker begins on May the 26th. A $40,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em event that is expected to draw poker’s elite players when it starts on May 28. Two days later, the tournament will host a $1,000 buy-in no-limit event that is expected to attract between 5,000 and 6,000 players. On May 31, a special two-day champions Invitational will take place where the 27 living previous World Series of Poker world champions have been invited to participate in a no-limit hold’em event. The top prize of the “freeroll” event will be a 1970 red Corvette and the Binion’s Cup. You can be there too!
