New Poker Movie Starts Filming Next Week
Yet another poker film is set to start filming. The latest offering is a Karate Kid-style poker flick by the name of “Deal." The star power signed onto the project includes the geriatric Burt Reynolds and teeny bopper TV actor Bret
Harrison. Little-known actor/director Gil Cates Jr. co-wrote and will direct “Deal," which starts filming early next week in New Orleans.
The storyline of “Deal" follows a former gambler (Reynolds) who passes his poker wisdom down to a cocky college student (Harrison), instructing him how to “play the player" instead of merely playing the cards. All is well between mentor and mentored until an altercation disrupts their idyllic situation. In a bit of a predictable twist, the now-feuding pair find themselves playing each other at the World Poker Tour championships.
In addition to Reynolds and Harrison, some other famous faces will grace the screen in “Deal." Celebrity poker player Shannon Elizabeth will join poker pros Phil "The Unabomber" Laak, Antonio "The Magician" Esfandari, and Vince Van Patten in making appearances in the film.
