Carmen Electra Goes from Red Carpet to Green Felt at Foxwoods' WPT Poker Room Grand Opening
Foxwoods Casino's new World Poker Tour-branded poker room was christened on Thursday with a little help from former Baywatch bombshell Carmen Electra, WPT host Mike Sexton, and reality TV celebrity Lisa Gasteneau. It was Ms. Electra who dealt the inaugural first hand, earning for her efforts $3,000 martini, complete with sapphire earrings sitting atop a sterling silver stirrer. The newly expanded and branded poker room then got straight into the poker action with a a $25,000 winner-take-all tournament. More than 1,000 poker players can be seated in the new room, and it was estimated that approximately two-thirds as many people were in attendance on the opening day. The new poker room benefited from an upgrade in both size and savvy. The acre-sized card room is now up 38 poker tables, to 114 in total. Although it has long hosted the biggest poker room in New England, the new room brings it up to par with the biggest card rooms in the world. Technologically, the poker room has also gotten a boost, with a new automated seating system, automatic card shufflers, and tabletop touch-screen computers, although the latter were not yet functioning. The new Foxwoods poker room is the first to carry the WPT brand, and it's not letting its name go to waste. Already tomorrow, Foxwoods will host the Foxwoods Poker Classic, an official WPT event.
