Poker Pros to Play Dress-Up at WSOP
Proposition bets, or “prop bets" for short, are not uncommon in poker circles. Two professional poker players, however, have recently become engaged in a prop bet that puts more than just a couple of bucks on the line. In this prop bet, Gavin Smith and Joe Sebok are risking no less than their red-blooded male pride. For those not familiar with the terminology, a prop bet is the “I bet you can't eat five BLT's within two minutes," style of betting. Smith and Sebok have challenged each other to such a bet, however replacing sandwiches with poker performance. Using the ESPN World Series Player of the Year point system, both players will count up the points they accrue at the 2006 World Series of Poker (WSOP) events leading up to the $10,000 buy-in main event. Whichever player finishes the preliminary events with the fewest points will then be forced to surrender to the winner's imagination, showing up at the first day of the WSOP main event in the costume of his fancy. If the bet's loser makes it to Day 2 of the main event, then on that day, and every day thereafter, he will have to dress up as a different superhero during each day of play. Both players have already formulated the list of superheroes to appear at the WSOP, and will announce each superhero on the day before he shows his powers at the felt.
