Annie Duke Horses Around for Poker-Playing Namesake
Poker pros certainly have their names on everything these days, from poker cards to bobbleheads to sunglasses. Now, one poker player has her name on a racehorse, well, sort of. Racehorse owner Jim Switlyk, of New Jersey, decided to name one of his latest acquisitions after the most famous female poker player on the tournament circuit, Annie Duke. Seeing as Annie Duke (the horse) is descended from horses named “Annie's Surprise" and “Cam's Card Shark," Switlyk thought it fitting to combine the two. Annie Duke, the equine version, is filly that just started her racing career two weeks ago. So far, Annie Duke is staying true to her namesake, showing impressive track performance. Switlyk, a poker aficionado himself, reportedly plans to incorporate poker into the names of future acquisitions. Among the options are “The Professor," after Annie Duke's (the poker player) brother, Howard Lederer, and “Fossilman," after Greg Raymer, the 2004 WSOP champion.
