Poker Run With a Twist: California snowmobile riders go out in search of best poker hand
The northern California county of Plumas decided to take advantage of a recent snowstorm by hosting a poker game that was anything but ordinary. The area's Lake Almanor Snowmobile Club hosted a less traditional type of poker run, whereby poker-loving snowmobilers went on a hunt for the best poker hand. Poker runs generally involve motorcyclists traveling to predetermined stops, collecting a poker card at each stop. At the end of the run, the biker ending up with the best poker hand wins. The residents of Plumas County, a rural region blessed with 100 lakes, 1,000 miles of rivers and streams, and more than a million acres of national forest, decided to replace the motorcycles with snowmobiles. The snowmobile poker run drew close to 180 snowmobile riders who traveled along a 50-mile course collecting poker cards along the way. The first place prize of $250 was won by Terry Remitz, who boasted a hand of four kings. Second and third place warranted prizes of $150 and $100, respectively.
