Men “The Master” Nguyen Lauded as Card Player's Player of the Year at First Ever Poker Awards Ceremony
Poker history was made last week when Card Player Magazine hosted the first ever poker awards ceremony with help from online gaming company Bodog, which produced the event. While this is not the first time that Card Player Magazine has handed out awards for outstanding performance in the world of poker, it is the first time that the magazine has organized a gala event in its honor. The ceremony was hosted by Bodog founder/CEO Calvin Ayre, the most visible exec in the online gaming industry, and “Everyone Loves Raymond"'s Brad Garret. The beneficiaries of the awards ceremony included, in addition to the privileged viewing audience, Phil Ivey, Men “The Master" Nguyen, Doyle Brunson, Chip Reese, and Daniel Negreanu. Negreanu, who was named Card Player's Player of the Year last year, went home with a somewhat less bombastic, albeit entirely respectable, “People's Choice Award-Favorite Overall Player" award. As far as this year's Player of the Year honor is concerned, it went to Men “The Master" Nguyen. Phil Ivey, a player who really shone on the felt this past year, nabbed a total of three awards: “Best No-Limit Player," “Best Heads-Up Player," and “Most Feared Player." Doyle Brunson, the granddaddy of poker, won recognition for his many years on the poker circuit with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
