Just in time for Valentine's Day, an online poker room has announced that it was in part responsible for the forthcoming marriage of two of its players. Party Poker, the world's biggest online poker room, can claim another accolade for being the first online poker site known to be behind a matrimonial union.

Gary Suffir, a lawyer from New York, and Jackie Johnson, an artist from Las Vegas, “met" while playing Omaha at Party Poker, and on March 7 they will vow to have and to “hold 'em" till death do th part, etc., etc., in a poker-themed Las Vegas wedding. In further homage to the game that brought them together, Suffir and Johnson will spend their honeymoon aboard the Party Poker Million V Cruise. To top it off, the couple is holding an online poker tournament for their guests in the weeks leading up the the nuptials.

Although the main focus of online poker sites is naturally the gaming, Suffir and Johnson demonstrated that the virtual community offered by such sites is equally vital to the overall experience. Party Poker spokesperson Warren Lush said that the poker union has inspired the site to look into capitalizing further on its social offerings. "Since hearing about Gary and Jackie, we've now done a deal with LavaLife for some private poker dating tables. Perhaps we should think about creating our own online dating site," he said.
