Forward-Thinking Pastor Finds Piety in Poker
A pastor in the Canadian city of Alberta, known for embracing pop culture phenomenons and finding in them religious significance, is now preaching the values of poker. John Van Sloten prefers seeking out the positive aspects of fads that have already conquered the whole world over, such as poker, instead of futilely shunning them. Sloten has said that poker has something unique to offer the believer in that it gives an emotional rush, the likes of which is vital in meaningful religious observance. True, poker players aren't necessarily thinking about God when they're feeling that rush of blood to the head at the poker table. Nonetheless, being able to feel to achieve that level of excitement will help prepare people when they'll want to apply such sentiments to religious worship.
