Two Robberies in Two Months: Virginia poker league dealt a bad hand
For the second time in two months, an exclusive poker league in the state of Virginia was the scene of a holdup when an armed robber descended on a Manassas poker game, taking with him about $4,000 and a good deal of the group's morale. In November of last year, the same league convened for a Texas Hold 'em tournament in Fairfax, when two masked men busted in and stole approximately $5,000, as well as watches, mobile phones, and car keys. Prior to the poker league's first robbery, coordinators recruited players through an email list, which attracted about 500 people to the league. November's robbery, however, led coordinators to cut the list down to 170 poker players whom they thought were worthy of their trust. Though they significantly narrowed down the player list, coordinators still fear they may have overlooked a couple of wayward poker players. Two players who were in attendance at the Manassas poker game were also playing the night the game was robbed in Fairfax. Coordinators suspect that the pair may be linked in some way to the robberies, and police are investigating the plausibility of such a connection.
