Off-Duty Cop Taken into Custody After Shots Ring Out at Unruly Poker Game

An early morning Sunday poker game in the town of Casselberry, Florida, turned ugly when one hopeful participant decided to turn a gun on two other poker players. To make matters worse, the alleged perpetrator was an off-duty policeman. According to the allegations, Officer Daniel John Metevier let his gun do the talking after being denied entrance to a poker game at the home of Francis Webster. Webster, himself, as well as another player by the name of Jason Granich, were shot during the ordeal. Webster sustained superficial gunshot wounds to the shoulder, while Granich, having sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach, was reported to be in serious yet stable condition.

According to eyewitness accounts, the clash began when Metevier was told that the minimum buy-in for the game was $100, an amount he was unwilling to pay. The argument escalated; Metevier ran out of the house with Granich right behind him. Soon after that, the players who remained in the house heard shots, only to find Granich lying on the floor, bleeding.

Metevier is facing two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm. He was released from jail after the $4,000 was posted. The force has placed him on administrative leave during the investigation.
