$100,000 Buy-In High Stakes Poker Show Airs Monday Night

Set your TiVo for tomorrow night because, at 9 pm, “High Stakes Poker" is making its official foray onto a television near you. High Stakes Poker is the latest addition to the GSN casino lineup. GSN is taking poker back to basics, shifting the emphasis from tournament poker back to cash games, albeit very pricey cash games. The game will be divided up into 13 weekly episodes.

Nineteen of the biggest sharks on the poker circuit have put up big bucks to participate. Players include Doyle Brunson, Todd Brunson, Phil Hellmuth, Jerry Buss, Fred Chamanara, Jennifer Harman, Johnny Chan, Freddy Deeb, Daniel Alaei, Eli Elezra, Antonio Esfandiari, Sam Farha, Ted Forrest, Barry Greenstein, Amir Nasseri, Daniel Negreanu, Mimi Tran, Sean Sheikhan, and Bob Stupak. Each player has put at least $100,000 into the pot, with the option of adding another $50,000 or $100,000 if necessary.

With a player base of only the best of the best players, the competition in High Stakes Poker promises to be intense. The word on the street is that pot sizes of hundreds of thousands of dollars will not be uncommon, and that, at one particularly gripping point in the competition, a whopping million dollars will be bet.
