Joining the ranks of the Las Vegas Hilton, The Mirage and the Golden Nugget, Caesars Palace has become the latest Las Vegas joint to reinstate its poker room. Poker suffered something of a bad beat during the 1990's, a period of waning popularity for the game. This, added to the fact that poker, a game not played against the house, is considered potentially less lucrative than other games like slots, translated into a death sentence for many Las Vegas poker rooms. With poker, particularly Texas hold 'em, becoming exponentially more popular, many gaming venues have realized that poker is one again a good bet.

Caesars' new poker room was built to the tune of $12 million. That sort of a price tag afforded the casino 8,500-square-feet for the main poker room, in addition to a 6,000-square-foot secondary poker area adjacent to it. The smoke-free main poker room boasts 30-tables and 25 high definition television sets. Adorning the walls are paintings by LeRoy Neiman that depict close to 40 years of Caesar's Palace history. Aside from hosting poker games on a regular basis, the main poker room will become home to major tournaments.

As Caesars Palace doesn't want to leave its regular customers without a place to play during tournaments, the secondary poker room will serve these players while the main room is occupied. Provisions have been made in the secondary room for the installation of 33 more tables.

Come March, the Caesars Palace poker room will host the WSOP's Heads Up Poker Championship, an opportunity afforded by the fact that Harrah's owns the WSOP, the Heads Up Poker Championship as well as Caesars Palace.
