Off The Strip Texas Hold 'Em Tournament Deemed a Success

The recent Off the Strip Texas Hold 'Em Tournament, headlined by Vince Neil of Motley Crue, succeeded in raising $150,000 for charity through the tournament and accompanying auction. Not bad for a first-time tournament. It probably helped that Off the Strip had a good measure of celebrity brawn. The charity poker tournament took place at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino's "The Joint" entertainment venue in Las Vegas.

Vince Neil was pleased at the event's success. "I can't believe how much money we were able to raise for the foundations and how much fun it was", he said. "This shattered our goals for what we had hoped to raise."

I know that in charity poker, everyone's a winner (awww...), but the winner of the actual tournament was professional player Chad Layne. Interestingly, in second place was Harry Morton, son of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino owner Peter Morton, who also made a “generous contribution" to the cause. I guess that Hard Rock doesn't have policies restricting employee family members from participating in tournaments...

Proceeds are going to the T. J. Martell Foundation, which raises money for research into the treatment of leukemia, cancer and AIDS.
