WSOP Tournament of Champions: Mike “The Mouth” Matusow devours poker's cream of the crop
In the early hours of Wednesday morning, the World Series of Poker 2005 Tournament of Champions (TOC) came to a close, crowning Mike “The Mouth" Matusow a champion among champions. Matusow and another 113 of professional poker's top players came to Las Vegas' Caesars Palace this past Sunday with their eyes set on the championship. In the tournament's final hours, the competition came down to Matusow, Phil Hellmuth, and Hoyt Corkins. After more than 11-hours at the final table, however, Matusow came out on top, with Corkins and Hellmuth trailing behind in second and third place, respectively. Known for being an outspoken character at the poker table, Matusow was noted to have left fellow players in stitches with his table antics at the TOC. Nonetheless, the normally verbose Matusow (hence the nickname) was rendered speechless when he landed the win of his career. He managed to get out a few words, however, and when he spoke, it was in superlatives. Matusow called this final table the best he had ever played, and this win, the biggest of his life. This marks this year's second million dollar win for The Mouth, who also took ninth place at this year's WSOP main event.
