Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles Charity Poker Tournament Raises $25K
The Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles (JBBBSLA) announced that they have succeeded in raising almost $25,000 through last week's charity poker tournament. Proceeds from the 2nd Annual Poker Tournament, which took place at the Hollywood Park Casino on September 29, will go toward funding the organization's mentoring programs. A total of $8,800 worth of prizes were doled out, with a top prize of $5,000. Anita Rich, who took home the first place prize, was quoted as saying, “I came here to have some fun with my friends, who are very involved in JBBBSLA, but I never imagined that I would come away with a prize. I've only been playing poker for four months, so I suppose it's true, what they say about beginner's luck." Margy Feldman, CEO of JBBBSLA, said that the money raised through the charity poker tournament would go towards “innovative programs that develop self-esteem, learning potential and establish life-long friendships."
