PokerStars' World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) Attracts Thousands of Players
The World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP), currently taking place at online poker room PokerStars.com, has proven even bigger than initial predictions. Since September 4th's kick-off tournament, over 12,500 players have registered for World Championship of Online Poker events, and prize pools are quickly surpassing minimum guarantees. The tournament series guaranteed a total prize pool of at least $8 million, and with four events still to go, including the $2.5 million-guaranteed final event, the WCOOP has already awarded $7 million, as of yesterday's event number eleven. "I am thrilled with the response to this year's WCOOP," said Nolan Dalla, Director of Communications for PokerStars.com. "Poker continues to boom and shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. This is especially true for online poker. WCOOP gives all players a unique opportunity to compete for a world championship title from any computer in the world. With so many players and so many different tournaments -- this is the Olympic Games of poker."
