Revolver: Guy Ritchie Poker Movie Slated for September UK Release

This fall, a new poker flick will grace the big screens of the world. Revolver, the latest from Director/screenwriter Guy Ritchie, is slated to make its debut next month in the UK followed by later releases worldwide.

Sticking to familiar themes, Ritchie's new offering involves the gritty London underworld, this time with a focus on card sharks and gangsters. The film's premise surrounds a poker game that ends with one player's death sentence signed and sealed. The game pits a notoriously good poker player, Jake Green (Jason Statham), against a notoriously bad poker player, but all around scary dude, Dorothy Macha (Ray Liotta). Most players who join Macha in a “friendly" game of poker know better than to go ahead and beat the casino/crime boss, but Green doesn't take advantage of this little piece of common sense. He beats Macha, leaves the game and subsequently takes measures to protect himself from the decree of death that Macha has placed on his head.

In honor of the film's premier, an online poker company reportedly expressed interest in sponsoring a celebrity poker table at the event. Ritchie's wife, the Material Girl herself, was in fact scheduled to play poker at the premier. However, following a recent horse-back-riding accident, Madonna has pulled out of the game.
