The World Championship of Online Poker Returns to Poker Stars
The World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP), the largest poker tournament to grace the internet, and the ninth richest tournament over all, is coming back to PokerStars.com next month for its fourth consecutive year. This year's online tournament will feature a prize pool starting at $8 million in total, with the main event alone boasting at least $2.5 million in prizes. Over two weeks starting September 4, Poker Stars will host 15 individual competitions, culminating with the final event on September 18.
Although participation and prize pool are on a smaller scale than those of the World Series of Poker (WSOP), not to mention that the host casino is a virtual one, the basic format is somewhat similar. Just as in the WSOP, individual WCOOP events are held daily, the winners of which take home gold bracelets. Buy-ins for the daily events vary, with the main event costing $2,500 to enter.
