WSOP Round Five Comes to Close

The 5,619 players originally registered to play in the WSOP main event have, since its start, been whittled down to a mere 27 left standing after round five. After the fifth round of the Word Series of Poker came to a close Wednesday night, Phil Ivey and Mike "The Mouth" Matusow emerged as the top two chip holders, knocking players just as Tim Phan out of top positions.

The fifth round also continued the roller coaster ride, which has been Greg Raymer's performance at the WSOP final event until now. Just this week, Raymer went from being the chip leader, to dropping out of the top 30. In round five, he floated into a top position once again, claiming fifth place. Raymer got back into the game by doubling his chips at the expense of Tiffany Williamson, the last woman remaining in the WSOP.
