Elderly Poker Player to Vie for WSOP Gold Despite Disabling Illness

Seventy-three year old Ed Taylor isn't letting a wheel chair stand between him and the world's most prestigious and lucrative poker tournament, the World Series of Poker (WSOP). Taylor plans to play in the WSOP's No Limit Texas Hold 'Em World Championship, which kicks off on July 7. Like many WSOP contenders who qualify through online or land-based qualifier poker tournaments, Taylor won his spot thanks to the Fort McDowell Casino.

A resident of Scottsdale, Arizona, Taylor suffers from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, and has been using a wheelchair since 2001. After returning from the WSOP, Taylor will take part in an ALS Association Arizona Chapter Texas Hold 'Em Poker Tournament, to be held July 16th. Benefits of the ALS Association Tournament will naturally benefit the organization.
