World Series of Poker (WSOP) Founder Also Makes Strides in Cancer Research
Crandell Addington, one of the World Series of Poker's (WSOP) seven founders, is currently involved in a completely separate but incredibly worthwhile cause, the fight for cancer. Not only did Addington help launch the World Series of Poker, but he also placed second in the 1978 WSOP's champion event.
Addington, a poker legend in his own right, is one of the two most major investors at Phoenix Biotechnology, the company behind Anvirzel, a plant-derived medication, which helps suppress the effects of cancer. The folks at Phoenix Biotechnology hope that future generations of their flagship treatment will turn cancer into a chronic yet treatable condition, akin to diabetes and asthma.
Addington started out in oil and gas ventures, but has since branched out. He attributes his success in business to skills he developed through poker. He has been quoted as saying that poker skills helped him develop further control and willpower, both which helped engender his success.
