Poker Operator Pleads Not Guilty to Illegal Gambling Charges
A man from Penfield, NY pleaded not guilty to charges that he helped promote illegal gambling. The defendant, Phil Corleto, operates a poker club in East Rochester, for which he was in court Monday on misdemeanor gambling charges. Local authorities stormed Corleto's poker club two weeks ago, confiscating financial records and gambling papers from both the club and Corleto's home. The poker club was allegedly operating under a special license, which was seized following the raid. Corleto's stand-in attorney has claimed that the poker operator ran a legitimate outfit and did not take profits from poker games.
